- Raw Jackfruit / Chakka - 250g
- Shallots / Onions - 1/4 cup
- Red Chilly - 2 to 3 nos
- Ginger - 1/2 tsp
- Garlic - 1 tsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
- Shredded Coconut - 1/4 cup
- Cumin Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Green Chillies - 2 to 4 nos
- Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves - a few
- Hing / Asafoetida - a pinch
- Coconut Oil - 1 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Water - 1/4 cup
Method:
- Cut jackfruit to small pieces as desired. Cook with turmeric powder and salt to taste. Mash slightly with the back of the ladle.
- Meanwhile pulse shredded coconut along with cumin powder, green chillies, ginger, garlic, curry leaves and shallots.
- Make a well in the centre of the jackfruit in the pan.
- Add coconut mix to the centre and cover it with jackfruit. Cover and let it steam for 5-10mins on low-medium flame. Switch off the flame.
- Heat oil for tempering. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves.
- Further add finely chopped onions/shallots and red chilli. Saute till translucent.
- Temper the jackfruit and serve hot.
