Dali Thoy - Konkani style dal curry

Dali Thoy

Ingredients:
  • Toor dal - 1 cup
  • Green Chilli - 2 to 3 nos, split  
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Oil - 3 tsp
  • Asafoetida / Hing powder - a pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut oil / Ghee - 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard - 2 tsp 
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp (Optional) 
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig

Method:
  • Wash and soak the toor dal in water for 15-30mins. 
  • Pressure cook the soaked dal with green chillies, salt, turmeric powder, oil and 2 cups water for 3-4 whistles on medium flame.
  • Mash the cooked dal well with fork or whisk. 
  • Adjust the consistency of Dal by adding water as needed and boil well. 
  • Heat coconut oil/ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds to it. Add cumin seeds at this stage if using. 
  • Add curry leaves and hing when it starts spluttering. 
  • Switch off the stove and pour the seasoning over the Dal. 
  • Serve hot.
